I am hitting up the health foods big time! I’m trying to shed some weight and eat more deliberately. A healthy smoothie like this delicious Blueberry Kale Smoothie are such a great way to pack in the fruits and veggies; I drink them daily. I’ve been growing kale in my garden and decided it was high time to get used to blending greens into my smoothies.
I’ve found the right combination to make this green smoothie sweet enough that even my kids drink it up without flinching. As long as they don’t see the greens go into the blender, they have no idea they’re even drinking spinach and fresh kale leaves.
When I make a smoothie, I don’t usually measure. The process is more of tossing in what healthy ingredients I have on hand. Feel free to adjust the ingredients and amount according to what you have available or what suits your taste buds. Also, I’ve heard over the years that dark leafy greens are – AMAZING FOR YOUR HEALTH. If you don’t like kale, spinach is a great option instead, the two are totally interchangeable in this recipe and equally delicious!
Some of my other favorite drinks to enjoy are Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie or my refreshing Orange Julius Recipe.

Step 2: Pour into glasses and enjoy!

Helpful Tip for Blueberry and Kale Smoothie
This blends up a little thicker if you use frozen fruit instead of ice cubes. If your fruit is not frozen, it is wonderful with the ice cubes too.
HISTORY OF THE SMOOTHIE – The term “smoothie” has been around since the early 20th century, but it wasn’t until 1930 that it was used to describe a drink. Early smoothies were simply fruit, fruit juice and ice, and they were an obscure concept in the United States until the natural food craze of the ’60s and ’70s. During these decades, health food stores popped up around the country, and these stores often made and sold blended fruit drinks
Yes absolutely! You can use fresh or frozen fruit and veggies for this and the taste comes out simply amazing. If more of your ingredients are frozen, you may want to lessen the amount of ice you use.
This smoothie is best consumed immediately after its blended.

How many calories does this have and protein. It is very good. My son needs more caloric intake and protein as he doesnt like breakfast but needs something on his stomach

very good smoothie! I’m drinking it now. I did spinach, soy peach/mango yogurt, & regular milk. I used a very ripe banana I had in the fridge. No need for extra sugar.

I just bought a ninja blender and this was the first recipe that I tried. It was awesome! I followed the recipe exactly- I just added a little ice and a few tablespoons of simple syrup made from xylitol. My boyfriend now wants me to make him one. Thank you for the recipe, I will be sharing.

What a coincident! I’ve been making smoothies myself. I’ve been using lots of greens kale, kiwi, spinach, cucumber, broccoli with almond milk. I’ll try your Blueberry Kale very soon.

From now on, this is going to be my morning breakfast instead of my coffee and toast! I always have those ingredients around but don’t use them in that fashion. I will now! (Plus it sounds delicious !)

Yes! It’s great for breakfast! Though I couldn’t replace my coffee no matter how energizing the smoothie! 😉 ha!

Mmm, blueberries! I usually just do strawberries, milk, and spinach, and a bit of maple syrup if the strawberries were sour. I like that this version is ‘sweetened’ with a banana. =)
