Air fryer radishes are a low carb side dish made with simple ingredients and are ready in just 30 minutes. They are seasoned and roasted to perfection, with the bright red skin being crispy and the inside being mild and tender.
Long ago I can tell you I was not a fan of radishes. I really don’t think most people are until they get older. But from the first time that I made them in the air fryer, I fell in love and still convinced that roasted is the best way to enjoy radishes! These are a healthy snack when they are raw, but once they have been cooked, they are a great low carb swap for roasted potatoes and tater tots.
This healthy side dish goes wonderfully with smoked chicken leg quarters or bbq chicken legs. They would also be great with roasted beef tenderloin and my wildly popular pot roast recipe. Because radishes have a unique flavor, it’s best to serve them with a main course that isn’t overpowering so they don’t clash. However, roasted radishes truly transform into a buttery, mild vegetable that is almost unidentifiable to its raw counterpart.

Substitutions and Variations
- Favorite seasonings – feel free to swap out our blend with your favorite.
- Ranch – next time use a packet of Ranch seasoning or use a homemade ranch seasoning packet.
- Taco seasoning – adds a spicy flavor and a peppery kick.
- Oven baked – prep the radishes according to the instructions. Place them on a parchment lined sheet pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until they are crispy and fork tender. Flip at the halfway point.
- Vegan – omit the parmesan and use vegan parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast
- Radish slices – if you are using large radishes, instead of quartering you could slice them instead.
- Garlic – some like to add garlic powder or mince a clove of garlic and mix in after coating them in oil.
🔪 Instructions:
PREP: Spray the air fryer basket with non stick cooking spray. Wash and dry radishes with a paper towel. Trim the radish greens off and quarter each one.
Step 1: Place the raw radishes in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Toss to coat. Combine all of the seasonings and sprinkles over the oiled radishes.
Step 2: Add them in a single layer to the basket. Air fry radishes for 10-12 minutes at 400 degrees. Shake the basket occasionally.
Step 3: Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and chopped rosemary.
Step 4: Continue cooking for 5-10 more minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
Pro Tip: Keep your air fryer cleaner by adding a parchment paper liner to the bottom before adding the radishes. You can purchase air fryer specific liners that have holes in them so that the liner does not disrupt the air flow in the appliance.
SERVE: Serve this tasty side dish with your favorite main course meal.
Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Radishes
- Try to chop the radishes evenly to ensure they cook the best.
- If using baby radishes, you can slice them in half or leave them whole. The cooking time will vary.
- Roasting the radishes in a single layer is best. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and not providing enough room for the air flow to crisp all around the radish.
Fun Fact
The spicy factor of radishes is because of the skin. If you were to peel them, they would be much milder in flavor. Cooking them also mellows the spiciness substantially.
Recipe FAQs
Radishes are a root vegetable that have a crisp, crunchy texture and a distinct peppery flavor. The taste can vary slightly depending on the variety and growing conditions, but in general, they are known for their sharp, spicy, and slightly bitter flavor. This spiciness is often described as being similar to that of mustard or horseradish, and some consider it an acquired taste.
The skin is usually a bit tougher and more pungent, while the inner flesh is milder. Some people enjoy eating radishes raw as a snack or in salads, where their peppery bite can add a pleasant contrast to other ingredients. Cooking radishes can mellow their flavor somewhat, making them less spicy.
They are best when served fresh, as they cool they may get soft. Keep leftover radishes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 days. To reheat, place them back in the air fryer or on a baking sheet in the oven. Heat until they crisp back up.
Yes, air-fried radishes are a low-carb side dish when using just a little bit of oil, seasonings, and parmesan cheese. These are great for those following a low-carb diet or the keto diet.
