We’ve all heard of Craftsy by now, am I right? Even non-makers talk about Craftsy, but are you familiar with just how many classes and resources they have available across how many topics? It’s mind-blowing, actually. Well, I’ve teamed up with Craftsy to spend the next couple months checking out a number of their classes and online resources and sharing them with YOU! I’ll focus on my favorite topics, like sewing and baking, and hopefully I’ll be able to show you some great new tools to add to your knowledge base! I’ve worked very closely with Craftsy to ensure that I’m able to share sponsored content that is relevant to you – I hope you love the series!
The first class that I checked out was one of Craftsy’s mini classes, FREE Sewing Machine Feet from A to Z, taught by Steffani Lincecum. I was excited to take this class because I’ve learned over the years that there is a foot attachment to do just about everything and, being a visual learner, I knew I’d be well on my way to using some new tools after getting the how-to through video format! The class did not disappoint. Steffani covered a good variety of feet, from closure feet to fancy stitching feet. Know how to make a perfect buttonhole? Afraid to do a blind hem? Ever wondered how to get that leather or vinyl to slide right through your machine without a problem? I think this class has something for everyone!
I have previously used some of the sewing machine feet that were covered in the class, but some of them were new to me! I had heard of an invisible zipper foot, but didn’t quite understand its function – after taking the class though, I ordered one within 10 minutes – HAD to have one of those. The gathering foot was also new to me – I’ve used a ruffling foot many times, but the gathering foot looks so much simpler to use, plus I can gather fabric down the center of a section rather than just the edge – very exciting!
Here are some of the feet covered in the class:
- Standard Zipper Foot
- Invisible Zipper Foot
- Buttonhole Foot
- Blind Hem
- Rolled Hem
- ¼″ Guide
- Roller Foot
- Darning/Free Motion Foot
- Couching/Braiding
- Gathering
There were so many useful tips interspersed into the lessons; I learned new tricks for some of the feet that I regularly use and there is an interactive forum relevant to each portion of the class, which provides even more clarification and tips. For each foot, you get a good high resolution video of exactly what it looks like and the teacher explains why it’s shaped the way it is and/or what the different parts are. Then, she explains the purpose and shows you how to use it. I watched the class one time and was able to dig out feet from stash that I’ve never used before, then pop them on my machine and use them successfully. I love having new skills to make my work look even more professional without the headache. SO! I’m going to highly recommend that you pop over and check out this class – learn about some new feet that will make your sewing projects quicker and easier. The class is absolutely FREE, so there’s really no reason not to go check it out!
