The best handmade gift I have received was the most detailed, incredible baby quilt made for my eldest daughter… We still have it — it’s in great shape, and we still admire it often… If only I had a machine that could produce quality like that… I have 6 grandchildren I would love to make things for — things they’ll treasure forever…

My great aunt made me homemade dolls and bunnies growing up. They were so beautiful and made with so much love and it was one of the main reasons I taught myself how to sew as a teenager.

The best handmade gift(s) I have ever gotten were both quilts from my maternal grandma. She made one for me when I was a baby — that, although threadbare, is my favorite. She also made one for me for my wedding.
My grandma passed away in 2006 a couple of years before I had my oldest and before I got into sewing. I wish with all my heart that I could share my love for sewing with her now. I wasn’t interested when she was alive and wanting to share it with me.

Best handmade gift – my husbands coworker, a guest at our wedding asked for a couple of the damask table runners my mother had made for my reception. A few weeks later she presented me with a purse made from the fabric! I love having that keepsake and now that I have learned how to sew, I am going to use the remaining runners to make a quilt.
