Tiny Treasure Box

Is this tiny treasure box the sweetest thing ever? I think so. Made from a walnut? Adorable. I have a thing for tiny trinkets and since this one is filled with glitter and imagination, it takes the prize. The idea comes from Helen Bird’s contribution in the Handmade Winter eBook, and I knew I had to make it the second I saw it.

I was planning to stash this special something for Valentine’s day, but Addie caught me taking pictures. I had walked away from the table for a minute while she and her sister wandered into the room. My heart melted at her innocent exclamation, “Look what was inside that walnut all this time!”

Her older sister set her right, cause that’s what big sisters are for I suppose. Still, I was glad to have elicited that glimmer of magic in my littlest sweetie. It’s just the kind of thing that the contributors of Handmade Winter would hope to inspire, I’d think. The eBook is filled with recipes, craft projects, sewing projects. But not just that. Gorgeous photography accompanies quotes, instruction, and written inspiration. There are ideas for large gatherings and more intimate gatherings, making for yourself or others, inspiring our children.

This is truly a unique and fun book. That cover picture alone is enough to make you feel all cozy and warm, right?

 Handmade Winter

A collaborative project between 20 bloggers with over 30 project ideas. I was drawn to the simplicity of the projects, particularly the craft and sewing projects. Most of them require just a few supplies that you probably already have on hand and I think you could finish most of these within an hour or two. That makes it fun to choose whatever grabs your attention – like the little walnut fairy box.

I tucked a tiny “fairy crown” into the walnut, made in the same way as our ever-popular DIY princess crowns. I also loved the suggestions given in the eBook for filling the walnut treasure box. My girls might be getting tiny treasures for many holidays to come, but the Penguin Softie from the book will be my next project!! (And no sewing machine required!)
