Today’s the day that I finally get to reveal the girls’ bedroom makeover that I’ve been working on for several months. I am so excited to show you because I could not be more happy with how the bedroom turned out!! As I mentioned before, we decided to make over one of the bedrooms while transitioning the younger girls back into a room where they could have bunk beds set up. The paint in the room was getting dingy and weathered and I was fixated on transforming it into a bright, cheery space with a vintage candy shoppe feel. This is what the bedroom looked like before we started the project. It was functioning as the kids’ playroom. I always thought of the walls as neutral and light, but once we started painting, I realized how much brighter the room could be. We began the project by painting the walls and ceiling with Glidden Interior Eggshell paint in ‘Marshmallow White.’ The paint was yummy thick and we used three coats of paint to really cover all of the paint underneath. I cut in along the baseboards, around the door frames, and into the corners, while Graham painted with the roller right after me. This worked really well to prevent any of the lines that sometimes occur when an area of paint dries before joining it with another area. Next, I tackled a project that I’ve been wanting to do for years: wainscoting!! For this accent wall, we installed a flat wall surface with molding shaped into boxes (I’ll get into those details another time.) We painted the entire accent wall, the base molding, and new crown molding also in ‘Marshmallow White,’ except that we used Semi-Gloss in contrast to the Eggshell we used in the rest of the room. After the Marshmallow White was done, we let the room dry for a day and then we started taping up the stripes for the walls. I’m going to share more details on this another time too, so do stop back in! Taping the stripes takes a lot of patience, but the results are so worth it! We used Glidden Interior Eggshell in ‘Glistening Moonlight’ for the stripes. After two coats, I peeled back a few strips of tape to check the color contrast. I didn’t feel like there was enough contrast, so I went back into Home Depot to figure out what to do. Because Glidden has a simplified selection of colors, I knew I wanted to stick with the ‘Glistening Moonlight’ color that the Glidden Color Tool had indicated. Instead of randomly selecting another shade of blue, I asked the paint counter to increase the saturation of the paint. They increased the color by 100% and after painting two new coats of blue onto the striped wall, it was perfect. Better than I could have imagined! The room took a lot of work, but it’s probably my favorite painting job that I’ve ever done (and we’ve painted a lot of walls). It’s also the first time that I’ve used any sort of method or inspiration picture to choose my paint colors. And although I had to take the blue back into the store for added saturation, it really did turn out to be the perfect color for the look I was trying to achieve. Ready for some finished room pictures? I used some of the leftover ‘Glistening Moonlight’ paint to create a couple pieces of canvas art for the room. Love how they turned out! I also purchased Glidden Satin paint in ‘Pink Ballet Slipper’ (which was another color from my original palette provided by the Glidden ‘My Image Inspiration’ Tool). I used the pink paint to transform a yellowed white desk into a perfectly coordinating accent piece in the room. Doesn’t it look like perfection? The mirror on the dresser is also painted ‘Pink Ballet Slipper.’ We’re still tweaking the room a little bit, but I am so excited to have created this beautiful space for the girls. Who wouldn’t want to retreat to this Vintage Candy Shoppe bedroom??

My foyer needs painting to a ‘me’ color. Right now it is a dull orange-y yellow color from the previous owners and it doesn’t greet me with a cheery happy ‘you are home’ feeling when I enter our home.

Love the vintage candy shop theme!!! The stripes are so pretty and the pink throughout the room tops it off. Great job!

oh my, I love the muted tones in here, but still fun and interesting. I need to paint my kitchen-i’m no longer loving the green, and want to do a more grey/brown.

I love what you did with the whole vintage candy shop idea. The stripes are amazing. I’m sure your girls are loving that room. My daughter wants a polar bear themed room with murals and all, aargh! Don’t know how I am going to do this without going overboard. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love this room! We just moved into a new house, and I’d honestly like to paint EVERYTHING, but the most pressing jobs are covering up a dark purple bedroom and an orange dining room.

Beautiful Stef! I’ve never painted a wall, but now I want to! (Yes, I just admitted that). Our master could use some love. My husband wants me to do something, but the taping scares me! Great job!
