I hope your Thanksgiving festivities were warm and fulfilling in every way. So many of us love to jump full force into Christmas preparations as we much on leftovers; I know I’ll be flipping on the Christmas music and hunting down our Christmas tree this weekend.
The sleeve pattern comes in three lengths – short, ¾-length, and long. I used the ¾-length and altered it into a puff sleeve (tutorial coming Monday) for both of the dresses I’m sharing today.
The red holiday dress is the basic Design 1 from the eBook, with the addition of a puff sleeve. I used a deep red Radiance cotton/silk blend for the bodice and sleeves and a fluffy, petal-like synthetic that I purchased from Jo-Ann’s.
A sash with a big bow is always a necessity on a fancy dress like this one! I also added an invisible zipper to this dress rather than the buttoned back – complete instructions for adding an invisible zipper to a lined dress can be found here.
The white dress is a bit more complex. I used the basic 5&10 dress, but also used the collar pattern (in sequins, nonetheless!) and ¾-length puff sleeves. The main fabric of the dress is a sheer cream chiffon with tiny gold polka dots. The lining is a thick, creamy knit. The dress has no stretch since it is all sewn together with the non-stretchy chiffon. But, the knit makes the dress cozy and soft on the inside and gives the underlayer some good weight.
I left the sleeves sheer which looks absolutely dreamy on. So feminine and light.
In the back….I added an exposed metal zipper and then added some decorative embroidery stitching with gold thread – love how this turned out!
My fellow designers are also sharing their versions of the 5&10 dresses all decked out using the new sleeve pattern. Be sure to pop around and see all the pretty inspiration at Craftiness is Not Optional, Delia Creates, Elegance and Elephants, and The Sewing Rabbit!

Love them both! But …that cream and gold one has my heart. 🙂 Love love that stitching detail up the sides of the zipper.

These are such pretty dresses! I really love the cream-and-gold one, especially the addition of the decorative gold stitching down the back and the sheer sleeves.
