Grace started Kindergarten yesterday. I was so happy for her to finally get to follow in her big sister’s footsteps and head off to school every day. She has been waiting so many years – it was hard on my mom heart, though. She came home quite pleased with her new friend success rate, then sat down at her grandma’s kitchen table and wrote out cat, mat, rat, and sat. She packed up her paper and said she wanted to take it to show her teacher the next day – yep, that sounds about right. Warm up time is all of 10 seconds and she is off! Olivia started third grade and was all smiles. This was the first year that she didn’t feel nervous or cling to me for dear life. I am so proud of the confident little girl she has become. She gave me some extra snuggles at bedtime and was chatting a mile a minute about all the ins and outs of third grade. I love love seeing her like this. Little Addie is anxiously awaiting the start of the preschool year and I’m working out this new schedule – it’s such an exciting time, the beginning of a new school year. The girls obliged to all the first day of school photos I could squeeze in before we hopped in the car.
I made some printable “chalkboard signs” for the first day of school. Couldn’t resist the trend! I know a lot of peeps have already headed back, but just in case you still have another precious week or two of summer vacation, you can download the chalkboard signs below – just click on the grade level you need, save the image that opens up, and print! And best wishes for an amazing school year!

Hi Ellen, what grade do you need?

If you could create signs for 7-12 as well, that would be wonderful!

What a great painting project to do with the kids! I have two of my own who are both in elementary school and they start in two weeks. These are adorable.

Thanks Angelina! I know, right? I was JUST counting down the days until summer vacation and now it’s over… I don’t know how that happened.

Hi! Thank you so much for making and sharing these! They are adorable!!. Just a quick a question, do I have to print these on a special paper, like a chalk paper o regular cardstock? Just thinking how much ink it will take me to print 5 of these. Too many kids in the house!! LOL!!
girlinspired says
I printed them on heavy white cardstock – I just buy a ream from Staples about once a year and use it for all my heavy duty paper needs 🙂 Yeah…five kids is a lot of ink, you could have them printed up at Kinko’s or something like that?? Or maybe you can convince a couple of them to go back in grades and share signs.

Your girls are adorable and I love the chalkboard signs you made! I tried printing them out but they aren’t printing correctly. They are white where your darkest black shades are – around the corners. What am I doing wrong?!? Thank you!

Hi Katie, You might have to do a little trimming of white edges, but just a thin line – I’m not sure why you’re getting white around the corners. My printer window pulls up different options like size (choose full page) and also has a box to check for fit to page or not – it seems to print fine both ways for me, but you might try playing around with that. I hope that helps!
