Did you catch the debut of Pattern Anthology? It’s the collaborative effort of four AMAZING pattern designers and I’m especially excited to share their first collection – Sun and Surf Collection- because I call these girls my friends. They have created a gorgeous collection of children’s sewing patterns and I’m thrilled for them!
Pattern Anthology gave me a copy of the Carousel Top to share as part of the Sun and Surf Pattern Tour. Lucky me!! I sewed the shirt up in just a couple hours for Olivia. You can also see the striped version I sewed in a basic jersey knit. The comfortable, feminine design falls right in line with both Olivia and my preferred styles. I used some gorgeous polka-dot fabric that I picked up in Berkeley a few weeks ago. I think it’s a silk jersey, but I’m not sure. It feels so soft and silky and lightweight and worked great for this pattern. Once Olivia got her hands on the finished shirt, she wouldn’t take it off.
Now, about the pattern, it was thorough and easy to follow. Go-To Patterns always provide a lot of information about the best fabrics to use and clear instructions for all the steps; this was no exception. Carousel Top pattern also has some great tips for working with knits.
When choosing a size for Olivia (we talked about sizing for sewing skinny jeans last week), I went by her chest measurement – and the size chart indicated to use a size 4; then I extended the length down to the size 6 line. Perfect fit!!! I mean, perfect!! I really appreciate a pattern where I can count on the sizing and all of the Go-To Patterns that I’ve used so far provide a reliable sizing chart for me to choose a size for my girls.
This top features a keyhole accent in the back and can be made to close with a button. There are sweet little gathers at the shoulders, on the sleeves, and in the center front, which really take this pattern from your average tee to a classy, feminine shirt for your little girl. I love how you can really use your fabric selection to change up the look of this shirt, too. I can see Olivia using this particular top with both jeans and a pretty skirt. So many knits, so little time is kind of how I’m feeling about this top right about now.
