My girls are playing musical rooms again. All three girls have been sharing a room for the last year or so, but a few months ago, we moved my oldest into her own room, which was previously the nursery. And now the little girls would like to have the bunk beds set up again in what is currently the playroom. Before we can move the beds and furniture around, though, the room is in desperate need of fresh paint. When we built the house 6 years ago, we had the entire thing painted a nice neutral coffee color and it was clean and warm and seemingly versatile for moving in. Some areas of the house are beginning to look really dingy and worn and the playroom has taken quite the hit over the last few years, so I’m on a mission to repaint as part of the room transition. Choosing paint colors is definitely not my forte and I’ve been stalling. When Glidden paint offered to provide the painting supplies as well as color selection tools for me to do the girls’ bedroom, I jumped at the chance!
I started to explore a color palette for the bedroom by searching for inspirational images on the web. Graham and I looked at a number of pictures together; we were searching for a shade of blue that would work well in a little girl’s room. Some of the images that we focused on were tropical ocean pictures and candy store pictures. I finally came across the picture and a plan for the room started to fall into place. This picture below, part of a candy buffet table by Amy Atlas is the one that I will be using to select the color palette for paint in the girl’s room. I think it will provide a beautiful blending of each of my daughters’ favorite colors, pink and blue.
Once I found the picture, I opened up the “My Image Inspiration” tool on the Glidden website and uploaded the picture into the color tool. Then, I just moved the little box over any area of the picture, clicked on “show colors”, and an array of actual Glidden paint colors popped up alongside the image. Clicking on one of those colors then gives an array of additional, related colors. You can click on the picture below to get a closer look at the image inspiration tool.
I spent some time clicking around on the various areas of my inspiration picture and the palettes. I wrote down some of the colors that I thought were most representative of the picture and ran up to Home Depot to grab some paint chips from the Glidden paint display. I was in and out of there in just a couple of minutes, paint chips in hand. I’m going to be using a blue and a white for the main walls and moldings in the room, and then I’d like to incorporate the other colors into the furnishings. Still thinking over the options, but I’m really excited to get started and see how the project progresses. I’m so curious to see if the image inspiration color tool will steer me in the right direction to paint the bedroom with colors that capture the elements of my inspiration picture. What do you think? Is this going to turn into repeated trips to the store for a different shade of paint or do you think I’ll get it right the first time?

I usually start with the fabrics that I want to use in the room to inspire my color choice for the paint. Along the side of the fabric are usually small color boxes that are used while printing the fabric. These color boxes show all the different colors used in the fabric. In a way, they are like the “My Image Inspiration” tool by Glidden. I think I would enjoy using this tool.

Oh, I loved the setup you had for the girls with all those GORGEOUS quilts! Pease tell me you are not giving them new bedding after all that hard work!! It seems a shame for all that work on the room for only one year of use! OK–I’ll let it go 🙂 I do look forward to seeing the results! The pallete on the computer you have chosen looks wonderful. Please shoe the befores again when you do your reveal.

My daughter herself inspired my last home decor/paint project – it’s a soft pink room with elephants all over the place. I was also inspired by A Lovely Lark’s daughter’s room. Thanks for the giveaway, can’t wait to see yours all finished!

The anticipation of twin girls is what prompted my las major project. Yep, bringing 2 babies into one room brings out a lot of creativity.

Our whole home needs major painting renovations now but one room was recently painted: our 18 year old son’s. It is a deep teal-ish color on the walls with white woodwork and door. He has medium natural wood slat blinds and natural wood colored furniture. The wall color was the result of much negotiation with Logan wanting very dark blue or green and me wanting much lighter shades. It looks nice but I am still getting used to it. He did it all himself with the help of a friend and I am proud of the job he did.

The last painting project I did was our bathroom. It was painted such a dark blue and we live in WA state where the sun only shines a few weeks out of the year, so I suppose I was inspired by our weather!
I needed bright and quick.

My last home painting project was my 11-yo daughter’s room. It was white when we moved in the house 11 years ago and we FINALLY painted it for her. Her favorite color is purple and of course she wanted purple walls. We chose two lavendar shades (one darker, one lighter) and painted the top half of the walls lighter and the bottom half darker. We also repainted her white bed with the same colors. We are slowly repainting all the rooms in the house and still have more to do. Your color palette looks wonderful!

I am loving your blog! I’m finding so much inspiration on here, thank you! The last home redecorating project I did was my downstairs family room. The builder put two sliding glass doors on that level to complete a wall of windows upstairs and the south facing views are gorgeous, but that southern exposure make for a lot of light and heat. Finding good thermal curtains has been the bane of my existence. Years ago, I “inheirited” some beautiful golden dupioni silk curtains and some red/gold plaid panels, and red throw pillows that allow went with my dark chocolate couch. All that was great, but I’ve been in love with the color combo of dark choclate brown and steel blue after I saw a dress in a couture magazine a few years ago. I’ve found pre-made inexpensive curtains, in blue but I’m still looking for my dream material to make my own…someday that material will walk into my life and knock my socks off!
