I’m joining in for the fall 2012 kcwc – Kids Clothes Week Challenge with Elsie Marley. The idea is to spend one hour each day, for seven days, sewing clothes for our kids. I think I can swing it. I’m going to keep the info short and sweet and the pictures minimal so that I have a shot at actually getting to the sewing part each day. For day 1, I put out two pairs of pajama pants for Olivia and Grace. I snapped pictures this morning before ushering the kids into the car for school drop off. Didn’t even get a shot of the full front of the pants. We were rushed, what can I say?
the pattern: I used the KIDS Pants pattern by MADE. I confess that I’ve never used this pattern before, or any regular pants pattern (did a baby bubble pant pattern a couple times). I’ve made only a couple pairs of pants, ever, and they have always given me so much grief trying to trace pants or create a pattern. And Dana’s pattern happens to be the perfect fit for both Addie and Grace. I can even use this pattern with a little adjustment to the length for my skinny minny Olivia.
the fabric: I used a pretty floral print flannel from my stash. I believe I got this flannel from Joann’s a couple years ago. I love the feel of flannel, but I never quite know what to make with it. Um…surely pajama pants fit the bill.
the sewing: Did most of the pants on the serger. Just used the sewing machine for the waist casing and the hems. I added a simple 1″ ruffle (cut fabric strip 2 1/2″ wide, press in half, gather, stitch to bottom of pant leg) to finish the bottoms of Grace’s pant legs. Pants were done, lickety split. Seriously, I cut and sewed the basic pants for each of them in less than fifteen minutes. Sewing and adding the ruffles tagged on another 15-20 minutes of interrupted (no, that’s not a typo) sewing time. A cute, pink bow in the front and my label finishes these off so pretty. The girls LOVE them! But, Grace wants a coordinating shirt. Anyone have a good jammy top pattern?
Who else is playing along? Let’s see what you’re making!!

Super Cute! Where do you get your labels?

Thanks! I get my labels from this store on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/people/worldsalelabel
They take a few weeks to arrive, but they’re woven and the quality is great.

love these, I so need to get my pajama pants sewing on. It is that time! Is there anything comfier than flannel pjs too? Love them!

Why don’t you just appliqué a heart (or whichever other shape takes your fancy) from leftover flannel onto a plain black store bought jammy top for her? Will take all of 5 minutes and will avoid the busyness of top to toe floral 🙂
Oh, and is there any chance Dana includes adult sizes in her pattern? I wouldn’t mind a cute pair of jammy pants myself! 🙂

I love the raglan tee from “Sewing for boys” book. You can make it in a sweet pink with brown sleeves and it would look great.
